From the World to Mānoa was a podcast where I spoke with different students from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, each week. The idea behind the show was to bring together the campus community and help students to recognize that although they may be far from home, they’re not alone. I also wanted to provide a platform for different students to share their unique stories and experiences of the places they are from.

Dane Gomsrud, a sophomore at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, is from Walla Walla, Washington. Gomsrud has come to Hawai’i to experience a place unlike his home state, and dive into a lifestyle that he was never really familiar with.

In this episode, our own Trevor Reed interviews Joshua Olson. Joshua is a film student in his last year at UH Mānoa, and has grown up for most of his life on the islands. He wants to help educate people by sharing his knowledge of Hawaiian culture and the history of Hawai‘i.

This week, UHMtv reporter Trevor Reed converses with Zach Scherer about the hard truth of California compared to the islands. Zach is a transfer student in his sophomore year at UH Mānoa. He is stepping out of his comfort zone, and is trying to figure out what he likes and doesn’t like about living outside of his home state.

This week, UHMtv reporter Trevor Reed talks to Elicia Tong, an international student from Taiwan. Elicia speaks on her cultural roots, and how she plans to bring the knowledge she learned at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa to revive journalism back in Taiwan.

UHMtv reporter Trevor Reed talks with Jemma White. Jemma is an international student who was born in England, and grew up in Abu Dhabi. Jemma, who is in her freshman year at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, is facing two cultural changes at once. She plans to use this new experience to learn, and find out where she would like to reside after she graduates.
